4. februar 2022: I Indien kan kræft have alvorlige sociale og økonomiske konsekvenser, hvilket typisk resulterer i familienød og samfundsmæssig uretfærdighed. I dette demografisk unge land er de rapporterede aldersjusterede kræftforekomster stadig forholdsvis lave. I en befolkning på 1.3 milliarder mennesker opdages lidt mere end 1 million nye tilfælde af kræft hvert år. I aldersjusterede termer afspejler dette omkring en fjerdedel af den mandlige og kvindelige forekomst set i Vesteuropa. Kræft var på den anden side ansvarlig for anslået 600000-700000 dødsfald i Indien i 2012.
Ifølge IHME-undersøgelsens Global Burden of Disease Study 2019-analyse er billedet ikke specielt anderledes globalt. I 2019 passerede antallet af nye kræfttilfælde 23 millioner mod 18.7 millioner i 2010. I 2019 var der 10 millioner kræftdødsfald, op fra 8.29 millioner i 2010. Disse resultater viser en stigning på henholdsvis 20.9 procent og 26.3 procent.
