I will persevere with courage and affection. I noticed a tiny lump in my breast four months ago. In that instant, I realised that my life would never be the same. I had lost my mother to a terrible disease 18 years ago, and I had since lived under its shadow. I was terrified.”
She added, in reference to the diagnosis, “Within a couple of hours, I was at a mammography clinic having the lump examined. I was instructed to meet with a surgical oncologist immediately, who recommended a biopsy. The biopsy confirmed my worst fears, and I was diagnosed with cancer de san of grade III invasiveness.
Following the removal of her tumor, Hamsa Nandini was diagnosed with Grade III invasive carcinoma (breast cancer). She stated, “The relief was only momentary as I tested positive for BRCA1 (hereditary breast cancer). This indicates that I have a genetic mutation that virtually guarantees a 70% chance of developing breast cancer and a 45% chance of developing ovarian cancer in the future. Before I can claim victory, the only way to mitigate the risk is to undergo a series of extensive preventative surgeries. I have already completed 9 cycles of chemotherapy and have 7 more to go.”
