The Department of Ocular Oncology is one of the rare groups specializing in ocular tumors, especially intraocular tumors. Recently, more than 70% of patients nationwide with retinoblastoma, which is the most frequent intraocular malignancy in childhood, and more than 50% of patients with choroidal melanoma, which is the most frequent primary intraocular malignancy in adults, have been referred to our department. We also treat ocular adnexal tumors. More than 350 operations have been done annually.
We are participating in clinical trials by estimating ocular adverse events of systemic chemotherapy. Recent molecular target therapy sometimes cause macular edema, serous retinal detachment, uveitis, ocular surface disease, and so on, and we evaluate and treat these adverse events to contribute clinical trials.
