Dr. Takaki Yoshikawa
is a council member of the Japan Surgical Society, the Japanese Society of Gastroenterological Surgery, the Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery, the Japanese Society for Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition, and the Japanese Gastric Cancer Association. He is also a member of American Society of Clinical Oncology, International Society of Surgery, and International Gastric Cancer Association.
He has served as a secretary general of the Stomach Cancer Study Group of the Japan Clinical Oncology Group (JCOG), a vice chairman of the Protocol Review Committee of the JCOG, a chairman of the Research Article Supporting Committee of the Japanese Foundation for Multidisciplinary Treatment of Cancer, an editor of the Gastric Cancer, editorial board member of the Annals of Surgical Oncology, the World Journal of Surgery, and the International Journal of Clinical Oncology, and a member for Gastric Cancer Treatment Guidelines of the Japanese Gastric Cancer Association.
His research interest is to improve outcome for gastric cancer by surgery, perioperative care, and adjuvant chemotherapy and he published more than 200 English papers in his career. He has collaborated with Leeds University (UK), Maastricht University (Holland), and National Singapore University for both clinical and translational research.
He has played roles of a principal investigator, a member of an Independent Data Monitoring Committee, a steering committee member, advisory board member in numerous international clinical trials including JCOG and sponsor initiated clinical trials.
The department treats more than 400 gastric and gastroesophageal malignancies annually. This department has been playing a central role in conducting multi-institutional clinical trials as a member institute for JCOG.
