Dato’ Dr Venugopal Balchand was part of the team that did the second heart operation on Malaysia’s Prime Minister Tun Mahathir in 2007. He is specialised in the diagnosis, treatment and management of coronary artery disease, lung cancer, and valvular heart disease. He uses up-to-date techniques and the most advanced technologies to ensure the safety of the patients and the success of the operation.

To date, Dato’ Dr Venugopal has performed close to 5,000 open heart procedures and was invited to speak at many local and international meetings.

Dato’ Dr Venugopal obtained his Master of Medicine (Surgery) in Singapore. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and the National Heart Association of Malaysia. He is former President of the Malaysian Association for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery from 2005 – 2009.
